Charity shops!

What comes to mind when you think of charity shops??
For me, it’s an old musty smell, the older generation, used clothing and footwear. For years I’d know it as shopping in charity shops as a bad thing?
I know it sounds silly but it was looked upon as you were poor or not well off as you couldn’t buy from the normal stores.

One of the earliest charity shops was set up by the Wolverhampton Society for the blind in 1899, the first Oxfam charity shop in the UK was established in Broad Street, Oxford and began trading in Dec 1947, just a little bit of history there for you…

It seems now that charity shops have been given a new lease of life and seem to be a more popular place to shop to grab a bargain or two, with over 9,000 charity shops in the UK & Republic of Ireland alone!
I have recently started to become a thrifty shopper myself, not just for the home but the odd item for myself too..
I look in charity shops, eBay, Gumtree, Bigwardrobe.com and other thrifty sites to see what treasures I can find.

I am currently looking for a nice big lamp, clock, mirror and some sort of cupboard or unit for my hallway as I have bit of an empty space I’d like to fill, but nothing has caught my eye as yet so the search continues….

I recently popped into a Cancer Research shop in Stamford, where they were having a ‘everything is a £1 sale’ weekend as they were having the shop refurbished. So I nipped in on my way home from work and picked up the following bits all for £4 (nice little bargain..!!)

I’m planning on going to snoop around a few charity shops in London soon too see if I can find any designer bargains..

Happy thrifting peeps.. 😊

  1. Very nice finds! I love a good charity shop. But unfortunatly there’s few good bargains round here. But I did pick up a 100% silk Ted Baker dress, with tags still on, for £5.95. I almost felt bad taking It for that price!
